From the Principal's Lair
Welcome to the 2015-16 school year! I look forward to seeing all of our new and returning students on the first day of school, Monday, August 31. My first year of interactions with Alconbury students has made it clear that each takes pride not only in high quality work, but also in demonstrating excellence in manner, sportsmanship, and citizenship. It is evident that Alconbury is one of those rare places that celebrates each individual contribution, and I know this second year will be exceptional.
It has been a busy summer on campus. At least eight major facility projects and a myriad of smaller projects were tackled during break. Most obvious is the front of the school. A new drain system needed installed and we were able to work with the school district and the base to take advantage of that work to beautify and improve our "face to the base." The art classroom was fully remodeled. The band room was gutted and remodeled with an acoustic treatment, a riser, instrument storage, new interior doors, and a new HVAC system. The culinary classroom was also gutted and a commercial kitchen installed with high pressure natural gas and appropriate venting and fire suppression. The tech building was re-roofed and new windows and interior doors were installed. Additionally, our exterior walkways have been re-roofed, a new wireless scoreboard was installed in the main gym, and the championship banners were all updated.Alconbury Middle High School is slated to offer boys and girls cross country, girls volleyball, American football, and boys and girls tennis this fall. Many teams have already begun practice but it is definitely not too late to turn out! Please call the school for more information about athletic participation and eligibility.
New students and their parents are invited to visit AMHS on Friday, August 28, at 1300hrs for our new student orientation. We will meet briefly in the AMHS library and then our student leaders will conduct tours of the facility and provide welcoming activities.
